I started machine knitting while my husband, Bill, was stationed in Japan in 1964. My first machine was a silver reed knitting machine. I presently use a Brother 965i knitting machine. We have been selling cone yarn in East Tennessee since 1986. Our web site is at http:// www.etsy.com/shop/stephaniesyarn

Deborah's Knitted Vests
Deborah's Machine Knitted Vests done on the Passap. However any machine with a ribber will knit tuck stitch pattern full needle rib.
Yarn use in the orange was a 2/17 Team acrylic yarn butterscotch and the red with a 3/15 acrylic marl yarn.
An insert was sewed to the back to create armholes and join together. Easy to knit.
Pattern is in a next newsletter, Stephanies Mail-order yarn newsletter.http://www.sumi-soft.com/yarn

Hi Stephanie, thanks for the comment. I really like your work too. I didn't know that there was such a thing as a knitting machine, I will have to look into that. I really like that mitts that you created. I haven't been able to master knitting mitts yet, maybe you can send me some pointers.

Hi
ReplyDeleteSilver Reed Knitting Machines are still being manufactured. Studio and Knitmaster are older machines manufactured by Silver Reed.
However you might find some for sale on ebay. MACHINES THAT ARE NO LONGER BEING MANUFACTURED ARE Brother, KnitKing, Passap, Toyoto, White, there's probably others.
The fingerless gloves are very easy to knit, in fact a flat piece is knitted and a thumb is added. For even simpler way just leave a small are open in the side seam for the thumb to go through.
